Semaglutide is a GLP-1 receptor agonist that mimics the body's natural GLP-1 hormone, reducing appetite, slowing gastric emptying, increasing feelings of fullness, and lowering caloric intake. Weekly subcutaneous administration provides sustained receptor activation across the dosing interval.

Novo Nordisk completed a cardiovascular outcomes trial in adults with overweight or obesity and known heart disease, which led to an FDA-approved indication for reducing the risk of major cardiovascular events (heart attack, stroke, or death). No other weight-loss medication carries this specific indication on its label.

What's the difference between the 2.4 mg pen and the 7.2 mg HD pen?

The 2.4 mg pen is the standard maintenance dose, studied in STEP-1 with mean 15% body weight loss over 68 weeks (intent-to-treat). The 7.2 mg Wegovy HD pen is a separate higher-dose option with its own titration ladder, with approximately 47 lb (19%) mean body weight loss (STEP UP, Novo Nordisk).

How do I inject Wegovy®?

Wegovy® is a once-weekly subcutaneous injection that you self-administer. Pens are color-coded by dose. Your Maximus clinician will walk you through the technique and you'll receive instructions with your first shipment.

Can I switch between the Wegovy® pen and the tablet?
